5 Things You Need to Know from the Twp. Committee Meeting

Missed the Nov. 15 township committee meeting? No worries, West Deptford Patch has you covered. Here are the five things you need to know about last night’s meeting:
1. Committee issued proclamations honoring Maria Budd and Mark Goggin. Budd and Goggin were honored for their roles in saving a 5-year-old child back in August. Both in attendance, the two joined the committee to accept the proclamations. Family, including Maria Budd’s mother-in-law, Jeanne Budd, watched in the audience as they accepted their honors from Mayor Raymond Chintall.
Maria Budd, a nurse, and former firefighter and friend Goggin performed CPR on the child after she sunk to the bottom of a swimming pool during a birthday party. The child was taken away by ambulances and has since made a full recovery.
2. The first reading of an ordinance fixing the salary grades of township employees and official for the 2012 year passed with a 3-2 vote. Chintall and Committeeman Samuel Cianfarini both voted against the ordinance. Cianfarini cited current economic conditions for the basis of his vote.
Second reading of the ordinance will be heard on Thursday, Dec. 20.
3. The second reading on an ordinance mandating background checks for youth sport coaches and heads of other youth programs was approved unanimously by the committee. Starting next year, all adults who volunteer for youth programs sponsored by the township will submit to fingerprinting for the purpose of background checks, before the organization can receive its allotment from the Recreation Board. 4. Per the Division of Local Government Services requirements, the township discussed the 2012-13 State Best Practices Inventory. West Deptford Township Administrator Eric Campo explained the yearly inventory of 50 questions allows the division to withhold the final installment of state aid until townships score within a given tier. Campo explains the financial incentive is used to encourage the townships to adopt state best practices.
While the township score was originally a 39 out of 50, Campo informed the committee that the township could now answer “yes” to two more question, bringing the township’s score to 41, and putting the township in the top tier. One of the amended questions regarded the disclosure of third-party administration (TPA) contracts, while the other regarded annual employee liability training.
5. A resolution approving the place-to-place transfer of a plenary retail distribution license belonging to G’s Liquor Gallery passed unanimously. Chintall explained that the liquor store was planning to move from the Sherwood Plaza to the plaza that currently houses King of Steaks. G’s Liquor owner Greg Payer previously spoke to Patch about his intentions on purchasing the plaza from its current owner.

Well there you have it. Government for the Democrats by the Democrats. Most people on fixed incomes haven't received a Social Security COLA for over two years and now the West Deptford Democrats (Including Kilpatrick, the Democrat in the closet for now), voted for a 2% pay raise for all employees. Meanwhile property taxes have increased by as much as $600 per household for 2012. Only one person got up and scolded them for voting that way. All the Democrats in the room were as silent as church mouses. Why is that? They must all be independently wealthy? Most government employees are paying 3% to 31% of their monthly health care premiums to offset the cost to the government. If that's not being done in West Deptford, that's a travesty in itself and should be looked into. Chiintall and Cianfarini did the right thing and voted NO.

COLA's should go to all WD employees making 50k or less. But giving COLA to cops making 80k, 90k, 100k and more a year? NO!
I'll be glad to debate anyone on the dangers of being a 100k a-year p/o in WD vs. a 46k a-year p/o in Philadelphia or Camden. And so when I see young men and women barely 25 years old who went to school with my kids making 88k a-year for directing traffic and answering noise disturbance calls in badlands like...Rolling Brooke or Sherwood West...I get angry knowing that it's my tax dollars paying that bill. Compounding my anger is when I see their name tags, and by an amazing coincidence that defies statistical rationale, they often have the same last names and older men and women - their parents age- who ALOS happened to have great paying taxpayer funded jobs in the same township. What are the odds??
The trough of public funded over-paid jobs for the kids, relatives and friends of the WD connected needs to stop. Why is it that every DiCarlo campaign supporter also happens to be feeding from the taxpayer trough. Another amazing, unbelievable coincidence.

Hey noresponsenovote how can you debate about the dangers of being a police officer when you never stepped in their shoes. In any town. Officers are killed everyday and not in camden. Lakewood, Millville these are not camden or philly. Complain about your department when your home with your families on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Oh by the way Camden officers start in the $40k get it right.

Redneck, this committee is run by republicans. What are you talking about dems for? Also is it really that hard for Chintall to pronounce someone's name properly? This guy is a complete and utter fool. Nice goign Goggins and Budd. I spoke with Big Ron after the meeting and he is still not happy about what is going on at these meetings, too much mularkey for BigRon. Watchdog, township employees do pay into their healthcare. The only employeese that dont are the police. Sam seemed to be silent last week when his wife got a 2.5% raise as a teacher in West Deptford. Would Sammy have voted against his wife too?

Watchdog; the one person who spoke was not a township resident! How bout that? Also I think the township employees deserve a raise for all the work they do! As far as the two no votes by ray and Sam is a slap to their faces! All township employees deserve a big round of applause!!!

Well when they're done clapping and patting each other on the back, maybe they can come and repair the curb they broke 4 years ago when some mastermind rammed a snow plow into it. I've called too many times to say, and have gotten nothing but lip service.

how many employees does it take to steal water from the township is that why they got the raise pay for their water bill.

I cannot say anything other than, selfish and irresponsible. I do not begrudge anyone a pay raise, however, this isn't personal, but the township employees have gotten a 2% raise every year. I haven't gotten a pay raise every year, due to the economy. We have been told at work that we will be doing more for less. Why do government employees, and I am not talking about all employees, feel a sense of entitlement? However, in today's economy, everyone is paying the price. I personally don't want anyone to lose their job, and when we were told at work that there will be no more overtime, or there will be lay-offs, I was fine with that. I don't want someone else to lose their job. I cannot understand why people don't see that we are all on the same team, and sacrifices need to be made for the better of the entire community. No one is saying they will never get a pay raise, but right now, we need to be fiscally responsible, but it seems that there are some people, it's all about them! What's in it for me, it is actually very sad. This is why our country is in the dire straights that it is in. Keep spending money that we don't have. I really feel bad for our kids, because they will be the one's paying for this act of selfishness.

100% on point Samantha! With the amount of debt our township owes, why are our representatives willing to continue the unnecessary spending? The township will need to bring in more revenue in order to pay for these higher wages. Revenue is another word for taxes. I, as a tax payer and not a tax burden, will be taxed in order to pay for these higher wages as well as the rest of our community. I also work for a private company. Unlike the government, a private business must make fiscally responsible decisions in order to stay in business because they do not have the power to just simply raise taxes in order to pay for their irresponsible decisions.
I find it ironic that our committee members with financial backgrounds are the yes votes. So much for that CPA license, or lack there of.
