72 Jobs on Chopping Block as AmerisourceBergen Leaves West Deptford

The pharmaceutical giant submitted a layoff notice with the state Department of Labor, citing the planned closing of its West Deptford facility in April.

After 15 years in West Deptford, AmerisourceBergen is closing its doors—affecting an estimated 72 workers.

AmerisourceBergen has officially submitted a Workers Adjustment and Retraining (WARN) notice with New Jersey Department of Labor (NJDOL). According to the NJDOL website, the building is expected to close by April 5 of this year.

The WARN Act, which was enacted on Aug. 4, 1988, obligates employers to provide a notice 60 days prior to a closing or significant layoff to workers, the state dislocated workers unit and the appropriate unit of local government—according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

AmerisourceBergen has not yet specified whether the facility—located at 100 Friars Blvd. in Thorofare—is relocating or closing altogether.

Amerisource spokeswoman Barbra Bungess said she couldn't comment on the planned closing.

AmerisourceBergen Corporation is a worldwide pharmaceutical distribution and services company, based in Valley Forge, PA. According to the corporation’s website, it is responsible for handling 20 percent of all the pharmaceuticals distributed throughout the United States.

Are you an AmerisourceBergen employee affected by the closing? West Deptford Patch would like to talk to you. Email us at westdeptford@patch.com.

the way the economy is going amerisource is following suit with many other businesses.
Obama can make way for all the illegals to become citizens and our own people of this country who worked hard and busted their backs to take care of their families is dwindling.
this has nothing to do what party anyone is affliliated with,it has a lot to do with taking our government back and putting it on the right path.

What are you talking about? Have you not being paying attention to AmerisourceBergen's earnings? They are making billions! They make more money than Google! They will be swimming in gold once Obamacare kicks in. The new CEO is trimming the fat to placate Wall Street so that the shares that he owns will be worth millions more than what they are now. They guy is out to enrich himself at the expense of American families. Oh, he's not even an American so what does he care about your family?

Making money is the entire reason for being in business. Businesses aren't in business just to simply fill a need of the people. Maximum profitability is the goal. If government regulations cut into the profit, do you really think they'll throw their hands up and say "oh well"? No. Businesses will keep their profit margins in spite of the government trying to tell us how bad it is to be a successful, wealthy business.

At the expense of the American families? By cutting 72 jobs, there are plenty more American families that are thrilled that Amerisource Bergen is still open for business and profitable.

What does being an American or not have to do with running a business which supports many American families?

More bad news for West Deptford workers and taxpayers. I keep reading the economy is rebounding, but it doesn't look that way in West Deptford. Another 72 jobs lost. Empty buildings eventually stop paying property taxes too. Our mayor should stop the political nonsense and get serious about retaining jobs and businesses in our township.

First term policies coming to fruition. Crazy thing is, the masses say "Thank you sir, may I have another."

How did this Apologist in Chief get a second term? Goes to show you that the average person is dramaticly effected by campaign slogans and slander. Overbearing regulations, overbearing taxes, an anti-capatalistic stance, and a dictitorial president equals a horrific future for our already struggling economy. This is just the start. No worries though. Our economy will go into another recession, which will give the government another self inflicted crisis that will require them to act immediately on behalf of the American people. All that means is more power grab for the government and less liberty for the person.

This is what happens with Chintall and CIanfarini in charge of the town. Business's are packing up and leaving at an alarming rate. Why are we paying Mark Cimino hundreds of thousands of dollars just to have business after business walk out the door? Earn your money Mark

Docimo and White were in charge when the Riverwind's developer went bankrupt and left town? Where is the hotel? Where are the townhouses and condos that were planned. Where is the Golf Course driving range. Where are all the shops along the promenade to nowhere? Where was your criticism then? I got news for you, your precious Democratic party was to blame. What's that you say?, It's not their fault?, It's the economy? You can place the blame squarely on Obama and the Democratic machine I knew it wouldn't be long before idiotic statements like yours would appear.

It seems like ever since Sam and Ray gained control business's in West Deptford are closing at a rapid pace. Why doesnt Mark Cimino do his job, he gets paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for economic development?

Are the commenters who blame the local government serious? It just so happens that obamacare taxes are kicking in, the fiscal cliff deal to make the "rich" pay their "fair" share kicked in, the unemployment rate is going up, no budget to follow for over 4 years by our Senate, spending in comparison to the GDP is horrible, our country's credit rating being down graded once and being considered to be downgraded again, and it's the local Republicans fault? Unbelieveable!

By the way Patch, where is the newly elected Senator Bob Menendez story about his alleged relations with under aged hookers in the Dominican Republic? Either I missed it and your search engine as well, or you haven't had the chance to get around to a prominent Democrat senator having to possibly step down from his seat due to his alleged illegal sexual behaviors with under aged hookers.

Occupant, Bob Menendez is just a typical member of Congress who has an elite, untouchable attitude who believes laws only apply to us measely peasants. I'm waiting for Obama's Lewinski to come forward.

The Bush legacy continues! There is nothing that Obama or any President for the next 20 years can do to undo the damage that Bush and the Republican Party did during their eight dark years of bankrupting America. Keep voting Republican!

Typical liberal, blame Bush. When is this going to fall on Barry's shoulders? I imagine that you do know that Bush had to deal with a Democrat Congress. I am not here to protect Bush, but your statement is false. Republicans were not in rule for 8 years.

Oh ya, thats right, we're suppose to hate those evil 1% rich people. Why should Steven H. Collis be able to fullfil the American dream and make all that money! He doesn't need that much money. There should be a law preventing us free Americans on making so much money. The government should be able to determine our needs and set a limit on how much we may be able to earn in order to support those needs. Anything else over the limit should be redistributed to those who are unwilling to work hard to support themselves and their family. (Note sarcasm)

Tom, you've completely missed the point here.
This discussion is over WHY the jobs have been lost. You blame obama's failed policies, obamacare, the fiscal cliff & whatever else Fox News tells you to be mad about. But if anything, this company has prospered & yet has chosen to shutter the doors. Incidentally, did you catch that they never said WHY they were closing??? It truly amazes me how greedy corporations & politicians can piss all over you people & make you believe it's just a little sun shower!

Profits are up....really? Is that up from last year, 2 years ago, 4 years......pretty sure every company is now making a little more money than in years past. Guess what people, there is not one, what ever party they are in, that gives one little thought of any of us common folk. The new ruling party thinks we will be better off if we all make the same while they still make millions. That won't work either. Answer is less Government and the repubilicans talk it, but they don't do it and the democrats understand completely to stay in business, keep people needing them.
Were all doomed...I am eating 2,000 chicken wings and drinking 4 cases a beer today......no need to go to work tomorrow, its all useless
