Budd Wins Individual Title at South Jersey Track Sectionals

Samantha Budd's win in the 800 was the Eagles' only individual title Monday.

’s Samantha Budd edged a pair of Delsea runners in the 800 to claim the Eagles’ lone championship at the South Jersey, Group 2 winter track sectionals in Toms River Monday.

Budd ran a 2:21.84, beating out Delsea’s Celine Mazzi (2:22.24) and Paige Senatore (2:28.02) to win the title.

The Eagles had a number of girls finish in the top 20 in various events; Nicole Pinto was 13th in the 55 meters and 16th in the 400, while freshman Karen Knoblock was 10th in the mile, running 5:50.37.

Kiyah Owens (29-9.25) and Marthalyn Johnson (28-9) went 11-12 in the shot put.

On the boys’ side, Ray Parsons, who was 9th in the 3200, and Leo Impagliazzo, who was 9th in the 800, were the highest-placing runners on the day. Dale Johnson added an 11th in the mile, Kevin Cianfarini was 12th in the 400 and Kyle Perry was 8th in the 400 and 13th in the 55 meters.

Nick Pulli pulled off a 46-8 in the shot put to finish fourth, in an event highlighted by Bridgeton’s Braheme Days Jr., who heaved an immense 68-11, good for 9th-best all-time in the nation.
