Former WDHS Track Star Dominates in College Debut

Megan Kirschling set the Elon University high-jump record in her first college meet, winning the high jump at the Liberty Kickoff Classic.

It hasn't taken Megan Kirschling long to make a huge impression on the college level.

The former West Deptford High School track and field star pushed her college career at Elon University off to a fast start, as she broke the school record for high jump in her very first collegiate meet.

Competing in the Liberty Kickoff Classic for the Phoenix on Dec. 1, Kirschling topped out in the high jump at a height of 5-8. Her jump easily won her the competition, as no other competitor got above 5-4.25. Her jump broke the school's previous record of 5-5.75 that was set last year.

Kirschling's performance in the season-opening meet was impressive, but not totally surprising for many of those who saw her perform for the Eagles last year. As a matter of fact, Kirschling's jump at the Liberty Kickoff Classic was not even her personal best. She had an even better jump of 5-10.5 at last season's NJSIAA Group 2 Championships, which she placed first in.
