Accidental Shooting in Woodbury Wounds Gloucester County Detective
The detective, whose gun discharged in a parking lot, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at Underwood Memorial Hospital in Woodbury.
A Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office detective was accidentally shot by the officer's own gun Tuesday afternoon in Woodbury.
The detective was in the parking area outside of the Gloucester County Justice Complex on Hunter Street when the weapon discharged, prosecutor’s office spokesman Bernie Weisenfeld said.
Authorities aren’t naming the detective “because of the nature of the officer’s assignment,” Weisenfeld added. The detective suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Underwood Memorial Hospital in Woodbury. County Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton also responded to the hospital.
Woodbury public schools were placed on lockdown after the incident, which occured after 1 p.m. The lockdown was lifted just before 3 p.m.
The prosecutor’s office is investigating the shooting and, as is required in all officer-involved shootings, the New Jersey attorney general’s office has been notified.
