West Deptford Wing-Off Brings Out Saucy Competition [Video]

It was chemicals vs. pharmaceuticals, "The Hurricane" vs. "#1 Winger" in that most Delaware Valley of competitions—the chicken-wing showdown. But in the end, Johnson Matthey's two branches ended up splitting the wishbone for wing-eating champion.

 and Johnson Matthey Pharmaceutical Materials came together Feb. 21 for a local version of the wing bowl at RiverWinds Restaurant. The eaters raced to finish 15 wings first.

In the divisionals, Jones took first at Johnson Matthey Pharmaceuticals, followed by Chris Davis and Joe Zagrocki. Losing to Bob Wheeler last year, Jones came into Thursday's Wing-Off as a divisional leader for the second year in a row. 

After gobbling down 15 chicken wings in one minute, two seconds, Jones said he felt like he could suck down 15 more.

Santiago finished fourth at the Johnson Matthey Catalyst, Chemicals and Refining wing bowl, but subbed in for Steven Drake, who was unable to attend. 

Coming up behind Santiago and Jones was Zagrocki, with a equally impressive time of one minute, 16 seconds. Fred Cochran finished in third place with one minute, 20 seconds. 

To the victors go the spoils, as each first place contestant took home a $50 gift card from Wawa, with second and third going home with $25.
