Kaminski Leads West Deptford Majors to Second Straight Section Win
Kyle Kaminski took to the mound to help West Deptford reach the loser's bracket finals.
Kyle Kaminski has been known for his bat in these Little League playoffs—he smashed a home run to start things against Glassboro in the District 15 tournament and has been a consistent force from the leadoff spot.
With West Deptford again facing elimination Thursday night, Kaminski got it done with his arm, instead.
After throwing a total of just 10 pitches through the first eight games of the district and sectional playoffs, Kaminski put together a six-strikeout effort through 4 2/3 innings in West Deptford’s 9-5 win over East Vineland in the Section 4 loser’s bracket semifinal.
“It was a tremendous effort by him,” West Deptford manager Gus Knestaut said.
And the Major Eagles kept it going as a team effort, too, something Knestaut emphasized after their first-round loss to Cherry Hill Atlantic.
Adrian Mason crushed a two-run home run and Jared Schultes put together a 3-for-4 effort with two runs scored.
Add in Tommy Sampson’s plays at shortstop and his 3-for-4 effort with two doubles and two runs scored, Matt Knestaut’s two RBIs on 2-for-3 hitting and Kyle Magee’s two hits, and it was another strong night for the Majors.
West Deptford almost didn’t need Kaminski’s solo home run, but it was icing on the cake.
West Deptford moves on to play Erial, which lost to Monroe Township in the winner’s bracket, at South Vineland Friday night. The winner of that game will meet Monroe Township at West Deptford Saturday in a potential final, with a winner-take all game Sunday, should Monroe Township lose.
