WD Alum Kirschling Named All-Freshman at Conference Championships
The former West Deptford High School high jumper continues to make a big impression at the collegiate level as she finishes second in the Southern Conference Championships.
Former West Deptford track and field star Megan Kirschling is finishing up her first indoor season with a flourish, as she was named to the All-Freshmen team at the Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships last weekend.
Kirschling, who has impressed in her freshman year with Elon University, finished second in the high jump, finishing at 5 feet, 7 inches. Samford senior Chenelle Terry was the only jumper to eclipse Kirschling's mark, winning the competition with a jump of 5 feet, 8.75 inches.
Kirchsling's effort earned her team eight points. Elon went on to finish second to Samford at the end of the competition.
Despite falling just short of taking first place at the Southern Conference championships, Kirschling still boasts the conference's highest jump of the indoor season. She set a mark of 5 feet, 10 inches at the Gene Anderson Invitational on the first weekend of February. The jump set a new school record.
Kirschling also brought home first-place finishes in the Liberty Kick Off and the Wake Forest Invitational, the first two meets she participated in this season.
