Letter: DiCarlo Needs to Show CPA Proof Pronto
One resident demands proof of claims the committeewoman holds a Certified Public Accountant's license.
To the Editor:
West Deptford Committeewoman Denice DiCarlo has used government meetings as her own personal political platform on several occasions. She touts her professional experience, qualifications and certifications as a means of self-promotion.
These proclamations demonstrate poor leadership, draw scrutiny from the public and cause a serious distraction to the critical issues in our community.
Why the need to announce her qualifications from a public forum on such a regular basis?
Over the past several months Mrs. DiCarlo has been regularly asked by residents to provide her Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license. In June, Mrs. DiCarlo responded by saying that she would provide her license number to the solicitor, but to date, she has produced nothing. She has dodged the question several times and said she passed the PA CPA exam, but that still does not mean she has or ever had a CPA license.
At a more recent township meeting, when challenged about producing her CPA license, Mrs. DiCarlo said that she would now provide her certifications her own terms. Mrs. DiCarlo does not have the right to her own terms!
She is a paid public servant which requires total and full transparency to the people she serves. The people of West Deptford are her employers, and as such, she is obligated to provide proof of her credentials just as she would for any employer.
As a school board member (where there was a $45 million budget), the CPA designation must have had significant influence in her election and appointment to the finance chair position. Considering that our school taxes increased every year that she served on the school board, validating her CPA certification takes on a significant level of urgency.
It is also important to note that Mrs. DiCarlo was not elected to the Committee, she was selected by Gerry White and the Democratic machine shortly after former Mayor Anna Docimo stepped down. Docimo had a similar ridiculous quote about her lifelong family health benefits not being your business.
Passing the CPA exam is only a part of the certification to obtain a CPA license; extensive work experience and continuing education is required.
If you ask most CPAs to show you their license, they often go into their wallet or purse and pull out the actual license whether active or inactive.
State agencies know that making a claim like this has serious implications to a person or in our case a community. These implications are so serious that many states have provided a method to legitimize claims by making validated professional certifications available for the general public.
Once again, WDTruth.com has exposed this problem with Mrs. DiCarlo. After conducting extensive research, WDTruth.com has provided significant details and videos on this topic for our residents.
WDTruth.com queried the PA CPA Board via phone calls and database requests. Mrs. DiCarlo claims to be a CPA in PA and the name(s) she claims to have used were plugged into the database but her name(s) never come up as either active or inactive.
At this point I would ask a few simple questions: If Mrs. DiCarlo has the CPA license, then what is she hiding? Why would she play this ridiculous game with the public and the large sums of public money we have entrusted to her? Why should we ever believe another word that comes out of her mouth?
Committeewoman DiCarlo, we respectfully ask that you validate your credentials now or set the record straight so this town can move onto more important issues. The people of West Deptford have had enough lies over the past 20 years from government officials like you.
Mrs. DiCarlo’s evasive actions to date, possible false representations and disrespect of our government demonstrate that she is NO different than her fellow Democratic machine members.
Our community must demand integrity of our public officials. Please join me in demanding proof of Mrs. DiCarlo’s CPA license.
West Deptford resident
