Letter: What's Going on With South Jersey Democrats?
In this letter to the editor, the writer says South Jersey Democrats, including those in West Deptford, are on the wrong course.
To the Editor:
There was an article in the Gloucester County Times a few weeks ago (September 1, 2012 front page) where Steve Sweeney was quoted by saying we must “punish our enemies” in regard to this upcoming election. Punish? Enemies? Is there a Civil War? I would hope as a leader his thoughts would be “How we can work together?” In this economy, a leader should be striving to work together instead of talk of punishment and enemies. This reminds me of his statement last November when Denice DiCarlo and Hunter Kintzing lost their bid at West Deptford Township Committee and the next day Mr. Sweeney “vowed to work to restore Democrats to power next year.” (WD Patch November 9, 2011)
Additionally, in the Gloucester County Times , September 1, 2012, there was a headline alleging Rob Andrews misused campaign funds for personal expenses. An additional article on September 13 stated that Mr. Andrews was identified by the watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics as one the 12 most “corrupt” members of Congress. This is the same Mr. Andrews who heavily endorsed and walked West Deptford Township on behalf of Denice DiCarlo.
Also placing hope in Mrs. DiCarlo, are Mr. Gerry White and Mr. Michael Angelini. Mr. White, who is worried about the feelings of the golf course owner instead of the West Deptford residents, in regard to the RiverWinds Golf course loan, selected Mrs. DiCarlo for the seat of Committee. Not once did Mr. White or Mr. Angelini (Township Administrator & Solicitor, respectively, at the time of the RW development) communicate concern or assist in finding the unaccounted for monies.
The recent antics of Andrews, Sweeney, White and Angelini have not been in the best interest of the ordinary taxpayer. Their interests are self serving. The old saying my mother used, “you are who you hang with” comes to mind in regard to Denice DiCarlo, since they endorsed, campaigned, and/or championed on behalf of Mrs. DiCarlo. The writing is on the wall. She is one of “them.”
On Mrs. DiCarlo's campaign website, on the top page, it states “It’s time to take our town back.” If taking our town back means associating with the above people and accumulating $140 million in debt, I think I will pass.
