Little League Update: 9-10 Pools Tighten Up
All three West Deptford teams are still in the mix to make the elimination tournament.
Pool 4 looked like the Pool of Death for the District 15 9- and 10-year-old tournament: With two West Deptford squads in the pool and just two spots advancing to the elimination tournament, it looked like a tough road out of the pool.
That was before Wednesday night.
West Deptford No. 2 upended previously undefeated Gibbstown, 20-12, which positions the team for a shot at advancing. With games against Westville and Clayton remaining, two wins would put the township’s second squad through.
West Deptford No. 1 looks to have the inside track for advancing and ending up the top team in the pool, as their remaining opponents—Clayton and Gibbstown—have both lost to the two teams No. 1 has already beaten.
Meanwhile, in Pool 2, West Deptford’s No. 3 team is in a crowded field vying for one of the two spots in the elimination tournament. East Greenwich No. 1 has control of the pool after a 23-0 thrashing of Wenonah, while West Deptford No. 3, Harrison and Oak Valley all still have a shot at getting the second spot.
West Deptford No. 1 plays Thursday and Friday, taking on Clayton and Gibbstown in a pair of 6 p.m. games, while West Deptford No. 2 faces Westville Thursday night and Clayton Friday night in the late games.
West Deptford No. 3 plays Harrison in the late game Thursday night, and could be fighting for a spot come Friday night against East Greenwich No. 1.
