The West Deptford Marching Eagles are hitting their stride just in time to host their own competition this upcoming Saturday.
West Deptford's band hit a new high on Saturday at Clearview High School, recording a new season-best score of 90.70. Not only were they the only school to score above a 90, but their school now sits at the top of the standings for the entire state.
It was quite an impressive performance for the Eagles considering some of the other top bands in South Jersey also performed at Clearview. Fellow Division 2 Open school Deptford finished right behind West Deptford with an 89.25, good for second in the division. In the Group 3 A Division, Pennsauken finished with an 89.95, the closest to West Deptford's top mark.
The Marching Eagles have been dominant in every competition this season. This Saturday, they will have a chance to perform in front of their home crowd, as West Deptford hosts their 39th annual Music in Cadence. This is one of the largest competitions in the area, as 22 of the best bands from South Jersey and the surrounding area will perform.
The competition will be at the football field at West Deptford High School. The competition will begin at 4 p.m. West Deptford, as host, will perform last at approximately 9:30 p.m. The competition is also West Deptford's last before the South Jersey Championships on Oct. 21.
