Matthew Shields to Be Arraigned Today in Ryan Coyle's Death
The 21-year-old Westville man will face upgraded charges, said the Camden County Prosecutor's Office in an email this morning.
Matthew Shields will be arraigned Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Superior Court of Camden County on upgraded charges in the death of Ryan Coyle, 20, of Bellmawr.
Shields, who was initially held on $50,000 bail for aggravated assault, will face charges of aggravated manslaughter. The 21-year-old from Westville has been in custody since last week, when he turned himself in to police in connection with the assault.
Coyle was taken off life support at Cooper University Hospital Friday night. He had been hospitalized since allegedly being struck from behind at a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Shields reportedly approached Coyle from behind and punched him in the head in a parking lot outside the Susquehanna Bank Center about 7:30 p.m. last Tuesday, before the concert. Cole fell and struck his head against the pavement, authorities said.
Prosecutors have not disclosed the reason for the attack, or said how the two men knew each other.
Following Shields' arraignment, at 2 p.m., is the arraignment of Camden man Osvaldo Rivera, who is accused of murdering 6-year-old Dominick Andujar and stabbing his 12-year-old sister as they slept Sunday.
