New Jersey to Award Grants to Historical Organizations

Gloucester County College will host a workshop on Feb. 1 to help New Jersey historical organizations in the area apply for a New Jersey Historical Commission general operating grant.
In an attempt to further help New Jersey's historical organizations in preserving the state's rich history, Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno announced there are new grant opportunities now available for financial existence.
The grants will be awarded through the New Jersey Historical Commission. They are available for museums, historic sites, archives, libraries and groups with collections or programs that help to enhance or promote the understanding and appreciating of New Jersey's history. Funding for the grants comes from the state's hotel tax. For the 2013 Fiscal Year, the commission awarded more than $2.3 million in grants to 75 different historical organizations throughout the state. The grants are awarded through a third-party peer review process.
“Supporting our state's historical organizations means preserving New Jersey's historical record and advancing our awareness of New Jersey's past,” Guadagno said “Organizations that promote an appreciation for our history also bolster tourism and our economy, which is now more important than ever as we rebuild in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.”
The commission will be having an information session at Gloucester County College on Friday, Feb. 1 to help assist organization in a applying for a grant. The workshop will be held from 12:30 to 3 p.m. in the Health Sciences Building, Room 500. Organizations must submit an intent to apply for a grant by March 1 and submit their final application by April 1.
