Police Arrest Jeffery Jenis, Alleged Smash-and-Grab Burglar

The Woodbury Heights resident is accused of two burglaries in West Deptford in August and September.

A Woodbury Heights man who allegedly committed two recent smash-and-grab burglaries was nabbed after a West Deptford police officer spotted him fleeing the scene of the crime last week, West Deptford police Chief Craig Mangano announced Monday.

Jeffery A. Jenis, 41, was speeding out of the Southwood Shopping Center in a silver Saab in the overnight hours on Sept. 12, when West Deptford Ptl. James Grant spotted him, Mangano said.

As Grant drove through the parking lot of the shopping center, he heard an audible alarm coming from Prime Time Rentals, and tailed Jenis into the Greenfields section of the township, where Grant stopped him on Holly Drive, Magano said.

Jenis and his passenger, Holly M. Pearce, 35, of Mantua, were arrested following the car stop, and were accused of smashing out a front window with a small sledgehammer and stealing a 37-inch flat screen TV worth $790, Mangano said.

Following the arrest, the two were brought back to the station for questioning by Investigator Jeffrey Pallies, who determined Jenis had been involved in a similar burglary in August, Mangano said.

In that incident, Jenis allegedly smashed out a front door window at DeSimone Construction on Mantua Pike in the early morning hours of Aug. 7 and stole a 52-inch television worth $2,249, Mangano said.

Jenis was charged with burglary, theft, criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools for the Sept. 12 incident and burglary, theft and criminal mischief for the Aug. 7 incident. Pearce was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary in the Sept. 12 incident. Both were released on summonses.
