Report: Possible Sweeney Senate Opponent Emerges
Niki Trunk resigned her state job, a move some see as a precursor to running against West Deptford's Stephen Sweeney for the 3rd District state Senate seat, PolitickerNJ reports.
A Republican challenger for state Senate President Stephen Sweeney's seat might be making moves toward declaring candidacy, PolitickerNJ reports.
The political news website reported Niki Trunk resigned from the state comptroller's office, a move thought to be tied to running for the state Senate's 3rd District seat.
Sweeney, a West Deptford resident, has held the district seat since 2002. He took over as president of the state Senate in 2010. Sweeney recently announced he wouldn't challenge incumbent Chris Christie for the governor's seat, saying it was more important to keep the Legislature under Democratic control.
Trunk previously served as deputy mayor in Harrison Township. She stepped down when her elected position conflicted with a state job, the Gloucester County Times reported in 2010. According to a biography on an old campaign site, Trunk has a bachelor's degree from The College of New Jersey, and an MBA and law degree from Temple University. She also previously served on Harrison Township's planning board and beautification committee board, the Gloucester County bar association's board of trustees and with Mullica Hill's Relay for Life.
Candidates for state Senate have until April 1 to file to run in the primary election on June 4.

Sweeney is too much of a coward to go against Christie.it would be a landslide win for Christie.sweeney just might not be successful this time around.

Finally someone to run that has more than a high school education ... Trunk just might win this election based on her education and intelligence alone. Removing a self professed union goon from the senate is paramount if you want honesty and integrity in government.

No Occupant, what we really need is another attorney involved in government to line their pockets

Jim (Whatever your real name is), You don't have to be an attorney in government to line your pockets. Liberal Democrats have shown to be capable of doing that all by themselves.

Sweeney, the goon needs to go. He is the puppet of George Norcross, who too, must go. I would love to see Nikki Trunk take a run at Sweeney and bring him down. He is great at pointing fingers, and people who do that, have two fingers pointing right back at them. Jim, Sweeney has proven that you do not have to be an attorney to take advantage of the taxpayers, he has done a fine job of it without a law degree. He continues to use the members of the unions to do his dirty work for him. He feeds them the garbage that he is providing work for them. The sad thing about it, he cannot win on merit, he needs to buy his votes.
