It was a good year for Steve Jakubowski on the field for Long Island University: The senior scored four goals—including one game-winner—and three assists to lead the men’s soccer team through an up-and-down season.
It may have been an even better year off it for the West Deptford High School product, though.
Jakubowski was named the 2011 Northeast Conference men's soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year last week, capping an offseason full of honors.
He’s also been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s (NSCAA) Academic All-America third team, and was also selected for the NSCAA’s All-North Atlantic third team.
In addition, Jakubowski was named to the All-Northeast Conference’s second team, and was a Capitol One College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District honoree.
Besides the individual honors, Jakubowski and his LIU teammates were also awarded the Northeast Conference’s sportsmanship award, and the team as a whole finished in the top five in the nation in overall team GPA, with a 3.43, finishing third behind only Harvard and Akron.
A double major in finance and business management, Jakubowski carries a 3.74 grade point average.
