West Deptford’s girls’ tennis team bounced back from a season-opening loss to Haddonfield, losing just 18 games across five matches in blanking Overbrook Friday, 5-0, to quickly get back to .500 on a young season.
Marthalyn Johnson and Katie Schober each won in straight-set shutouts at singles, and Michelle Bower lost just two games in winning at second singles.
The new doubles team of Mia Forbes and Danielle Melvin also won easily, dropping just three games in their win at second doubles, while Eisha Granger and Keriann Pfleger bounced back from a tough second set to win at first singles and clinch the team shutout.
Led by a hat trick by sniper Rachel Krott, the Eagles dominated in their season opener, beating Overbrook 9-0.
Krott also added an assist in the game, and was joined in the offensive barrage by Amanda Hojnowski (two goals, two assists), Victoria Palese (two goals) and Abigail Strano (one goal). Justine Oldt added an assist to help an offense that was clicking on all cylinders.
West Deptford won’t have to wait long for a much stiffer test—they’ll be on the road taking on Haddonfield at Radnor Field Tuesday in a rematch of last year’s Group 2 title game, which the Bulldawgs won to take the season sweep.
