In addition to its two South Jersey locations, Nifty Fifty's has three throwback-style restaurants in southeastern Pennsylvania. The five owners—Robert Mattei, 73, of Del Ray Beach, FL; Leo McGlynn, 52, of Swarthmore, PA; Brian Welsh, 48, of Springfield, PA; Joseph Donnelly, 49, of Springfield, PA; and Elena Ruiz, 46, of Drexel Hill, PA—are charged with conspiracy to commit tax …

A state legislative committee approved a bill this week that would bar the practice.
Can an employer force you to reveal your Facebook or other social media password as a condition for getting hired or keeping your job? That issue began to get some attention in March after a statistician in New York reported that during an interview with a potential employer, the woman interviewing him had searched for his Facebook and, upon discovering that it was private, asked him for the password. The statistician, Justin Bassett, refused and left the interview according to the Associated Press. But the story brought to light other instances where employers have sought similar access to social media accounts, and have led several states to consider legislation to ban the practice. California's assembly voted Thursday to approve such …

The Local Finance Board left West Deptford's bonds, which would fund $32.4 million in property tax settlements, off the May agenda.
The state Local Finance Board (LFB) has declined to hear West Deptford's bond application this month that would fund two settlements totaling $32.4 million over property tax disputes at the Eagle Point refinery complex. After the bond proposals were left off both the regular and supplemental agendas for the board's meeting Wednesday, Mayor Ray Chintall confirmed there's still work to be done. "The LFB staff needs further answers before they can support a recommendation to the board," Chintall said in an email. In order to get that recommendation, Chintall said a meeting is planned for early next week to discuss the application with the LFB. The settlements on Eagle Point would draw to a close disputes with two different companies over more…
The San Antonio-based oil company, which has operations in West Deptford and Paulsboro, is now ranked 377.
NuStar Energy, L.P., the San Antonio, TX-based oil company with an asphalt refinery in West Deptford, leaped 120 spots in this year’s FORTUNE 500 list, up to 377 from 497 last year. The company, which employs 160 workers between Linden, Paulsboro and West Deptford, made the jump after posting $6.57 billion in revenue in 2011, a 49.3-percent increase, largely on increased volume and prices for bunker fuel—used to power large ships—and increased crude oil volume and pricing, as well as a spike in revenue from acquiring a 14,500 barrel per day refinery in San Antonio. “Thanks to our employees, we have weathered the economic downturn better than most companies and established a strong foundation from which to grow,” said NuStar President and …

GE Capital bought the property at a U.S. Marshal's sale last month, and has brought the property up to date on PILOT and tax payments.
The slate has been wiped clean at the Rivercove apartment complex. After close to a year of wrangling between Grove Street Urban Renewal, the now-former owners of the complex, and the township over potentially lifting age restrictions to help save the owners, creditors have stepped in, bought the property and paid off the bulk of back taxes and Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) payments, West Deptford officials announced Thursday night. GE Capital, the mortgage lenders on the property, bought the property for $25 million at a U.S. Marshal’s sale in March, after an original marshal’s sale in February was postponed. And as of Wednesday, a total of $1.5 million in PILOT and tax payments had been sent out by GE to bring the property up to date…

The settlement deal over property tax disputes at Eagle Point should be safe in the merger, company officials said.
A pending $13.9 million settlement with Sunoco over longstanding property tax disputes on the value of the Eagle Point complex is likely to stay on course, despite the oil giant’s announcement Monday of its sale to Texas-based Energy Transfer Partners (ETP), according to company officials. Should the settlement pass muster with the state Local Finance Board (LFB) and get final approval from the West Deptford township committee, it doesn’t appear as though there’s any chance the settlement would be scuttled by ETP’s purchase of the company, Sunoco spokesman Thomas Golembeski said. “I don't know for sure, but I really doubt it,” Golembeski said. The Sunoco settlement and a separate, $18.5 million settlement with Coastal/El Paso, the refinery…
