Competitive Grant Awarded to GCC’s Retired Senior Volunteer Program

Deptford Twp. – The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) at Gloucester County College received a competitive grant in the amount of $57,673 to invest in quality community service initiatives to enrich the lives of South Jersey residents.

Awarded by the Corporation of National and Community Service (CNCS), this grant supports Healthy Futures, a campaign to help seniors and youths meet their wellness needs. Its primary focus is to promote independent living and improve access to primary and preventative health care via CNCS-supported programs.

Healthy Futures also includes senior community service activities to aid in the fight against childhood obesity. More than 300 volunteers will take part in wellness programs to improve youth fitness and nutrition throughout the locale.

The GCC RSVP is one of only three Senior Corps branches to collect funding through CNCS’s competitive grant process. Established in 1971, RSVP engages older Americans in volunteer opportunities across the country, ranging from hunger prevention, to critical response efforts. RSVP has been a part of the College campus since 1982 and presently maintains 320 volunteers.
