Donor Gives Additional $40,000 to GCC Scholarship Foundation

Deptford Twp.  – The season of giving is well underway and David Slack, of Mullica Hill, has embraced the spirits of goodwill, charity and cheer. 

Slack is giving the Gloucester County College Foundation $40,000 to increase student financial aid opportunities in addition to a $10,000 scholarship endowment he established in August. Although a member of Princeton University’s class of 1969, Slack prefers to give back to his community. 

“I’ve always believed that an education is the best resource available to anyone,” said Slack. “Gloucester County College is an asset that has been used by other members of my family. Universities like Princeton have plenty of endowment.” 

In August, he formed the Kathleen L. Slack Memorial Scholarship to honor his late wife. A native to the town, she graduated from Woodbury High School in 1969 where she cultivated her creative talents. She did not have the opportunity to attend college but she firmly believed in the importance of a formal education.

No stranger to the College, Slack has participated in the GCC Juried Senior Art Show and exhibited his Peter Max prints in The Dr. Ross Beitzel Permanent Art Gallery. Kathleen serves as his inspiration both in art and philanthropy. 

“I decided to give this money to Gloucester County College because I know it will make a difference and have an impact here,” said Slack. “This is the type of thing Kathleen believed in. I know she would approve.” 

Gloucester County College’s 250-acre campus is located at 1400 Tanyard Road in Deptford, right off Exit 56 of Route 55.
