Financial Planning, Personal Enrichment Workshops at GCC

Deptford Twp. – The Center for People in Transition at Gloucester County College is offering an assortment of personal finance, healthy living and wellness workshops during the month of February. “The ‘New’ New Beginnings” — Workshop Facilitator Deborah Makos-Trionfo will help individuals struggling with the loss of a loved one, divorce, unemployment, diminished health or eroding confidence to attain a happier future. During this eight-part series, participants will discover new inspiration for changing the “script” of their lives. Individuals will learn that they have the power to choose a happier experience, not only for tomorrow, but for every moment of their lives. It meets Monday and Thursday, Feb. 3, 6, 10, 13, 17, 20, 24 and 27 from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

“Smart Women Finish Rich” — Joseph Johnson, owner of Main Street Financial, will equip individuals with seven steps to plan for their financial security. These simple steps are designed to help participants figure out where they stand financially, improve their lives and to put their money where their values are. It meets Tuesday, Feb. 4 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

“Laws of Separation and Divorce” — An attorney from the Gloucester County Bar Association will speak on grounds for divorce, court procedures, alimony, equitable distribution, custody, visitation rights and other concerns. It will meet Wednesday, Feb. 5 from 7 to 9 p.m.

“Intermediate Computers” — Expert Certified Microsoft Access Developer Lauri Kuder will conduct this 40-hour course on the Microsoft Office Suite. Topics include intermediate skills and knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications. It costs $40 for displaced homemakers and $100 for non-displaced homemakers. Sessions are held Fridays Feb. 7 through April 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. No classes held March 14.

“Widowhood: Financial Perspective” — Financial Advisor Monique Castillo will explain the financial realities widows face and the steps necessary to ease the transition. She will also provide an actionable checklist and booklet summarizing key concepts to keep all participants on track after the workshop. It meets Tuesday, Feb. 11 from 7 to 9 p.m.

“Lions, Tigers and Bears, Oh My! Riding the Emotional Roller Coaster” — Certified Professional Life Coach Sharon Roth-Lichtenfeld, CPC, will offer coping mechanisms to deal with emotional stress and lifestyle changes. This empowering workshop will help individuals uncover and navigate the twists and turns of life. It meets Wednesday, Feb. 12 from 7 to 9 p.m.

“Financial Aspects of Divorce” — Joseph Johnson, owner of Main Street Financial, will explain a broad range of monetary issues that individuals face when going through divorce. This workshop is designed to help individuals avoid costly mistakes, clarify expectations and begin planning for a “successful” divorce. It meets Tuesday, Feb. 18 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

“Simple Estate Planning” — John P. Ciocco, Esq., will discuss the importance of estate planning as well as give explanations and pointers regarding the various legal documents involved in the process. It meets Wednesday, Feb. 19 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

“Powerful Retirement Strategies for Women” — Financial Advisor Monique Castillo will describe the unique challenges women face when planning for retirement, including longevity, wage and primary caregiver factors. Participants will discover the strategies they need to plan for retirement. This workshop is sponsored in part by the Women’s Leadership Council of the United Way. It meets Tuesday, Feb. 25 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Gloucester County College’s 250-acre campus is located on Tanyard Road in Deptford, just off Exit 56 of Route 55.
