Financial Planning, Personal Enrichment Workshops at GCC

Deptford Twp. – The Center for People in Transition at Gloucester County College is offering an assortment of free personal finance, healthy living and wellness workshops during the month of November. To register, please call 856-415-2222 or email peopleintransition@gccnj.edu

“‘Everything’ Elder Legal Clinic” — Victoria M. Dalton, Esq., will provide legal information in an array of areas that are most important to senior citizens. Individuals are welcome to bring their lunches and join Dalton as she answers all their questions relating to elder needs. It meets Friday, Nov. 1 from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

“Save Money By Couponing” — Workshop facilitator Allison Rodman, M.S. Ed., will offer strategies for saving money on the family’s weekly grocery bill. Such techniques include pairing print and online coupons with store sale advertisements as well as organizing coupons to save time. This workshop is for individuals who are looking to cut corners on the cost of necessities. Participants should bring their grocery lists for the next one to four weeks and the tools necessary to organize it (i.e. paper and pencil, iPad, phone, etc.) and store cards (i.e. ShopRite). This workshop is co-sponsored by the Heart of Gloucester County. It meets Monday, Nov. 11 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

“How to Avoid Costly Housing Mistakes Before, During and After Divorce” — RE/MAX Connection Agent Brian Ziegenfuss will explain how to protect one’s desired interest in the sale of a home and to maximize profits. Issues of lifestyle changes, new budgets and housing affordability will also be addressed. It meets Tuesday, Nov. 12 from 7 to 9 p.m.

“Celebrating the Holidays in New Ways” — Licensed Professional Counselor Jeannie McQuaide, Ph.D., will provide helpful advice to approaching the holiday season after experiencing death or divorce in the family. Other grieving individuals are welcome to attend. This workshop will identify new ways to celebrate so that individuals can rediscover the peace and joy of the holidays. It meets Wednesday, Nov. 13 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

“Laws of Separation and Divorce” — An attorney from the Gloucester County Bar Association will speak on grounds for divorce, court procedures, alimony, equitable distribution, custody, visitation rights and other concerns. It will meet Tuesday, Nov. 19 from 7 to 9 p.m.

“Financial Aspects of Divorce” — Joseph Johnson, owner of Main Street Financial, will explain a broad range of monetary issues that individuals face when going through divorce. This workshop is designed to help individuals avoid costly mistakes, clarify expectations and begin planning for a “successful” divorce. It meets Tuesday, Nov. 26 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

“Bounce Forward: Building Resilience” — Certified Professional Life Coach Sharon Roth-Lichtenfeld will illustrate how to harness one’s inner strengths to overcome setbacks. When change happens — whether from job loss, illness, divorce or death of a loved one — it sets off a chain of negative emotional responses. Individuals often feel victimized, overwhelmed or tend to dwell on problems. This workshop describes how to gain the healthy support necessary to “bounce forward” and build resilience. It meets Wednesday, Nov. 27 from 7 to 9 p.m.
