GCC & Community Chorus Spring Concert April 27

Deptford Twp. – The Gloucester County College & Community Chorus will perform a sweet serenade for audiences to enjoy during its annual spring concert on Sunday, April 27 at 3 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center.

Conductor Lawrence De Pasquale and accompanist David Anderson return for their 14th season to lead an array of melodies. The 47-voice choir opens its repertoire with “Thirty Second Fa La La,” a playful musical doodle composed by Donald Moore. From there the ensemble sings John Purifoy’s “If Music Be the Food of Love,” a reverie based on Shakespeare’s comedy “Twelfth Night.”

Guest director Amy Shimmin, daughter of composer William Shimmin, will then guide a small group performance through her late father’s arrangement of “Shenando.” The first part of the program wraps up with Russell Thompson’s simple composition of “Deep River” followed by Clay Warnick’s setting of Gershwin’s “I Got Rhythm.”

After a short intermission, the choir takes center stage to sing John Clement’s “Flower of Beauty.” The concert closes with melodies from the musicals “Phantom of the Opera,” “Rodgers and Hammerstein on Broadway” and “Les Miserables.” Featured soloists include Pat Diehl and Patricia Januszewski, of Mickleton, Jason Puksar, of Woodbury, and Dawn Hoffman, of Pitman.

Tickets are $5 and can be purchased in advance by calling 856-415-2139. House seating is limited to 250 guests. Proceeds benefit the John V. Chard Memorial Scholarship Fund, an award that is given to selected applicants who are pursuing music studies in higher education either at GCC or elsewhere in the locale.

Gloucester County College’s 250-acre campus is located at 1400 Tanyard Road in Deptford, right off Exit 56 of Route 55.
