GCC Students Get a Charge Out of Solar Engineering

Deptford Twp. –   Gloucester County College students in Gayle Hughes’ Introduction to Engineering 101 class learned how to harness sunlight with photovoltaic components to produce solar energy and generate electricity for heating, lighting and cooling buildings during a visit from Chris Baralus and Joe Joyce of Ray Angelini, Inc. (RAI). An engineer, Baralus discussed the various renewable energy projects the company has worked on including solar parking garages, schools and the Lincoln Financial Field, before taking the 21 students on a tour of the campus solar field. GCC’s solar field is anticipated to generate 3.7 million kilowatt hours of energy each year — approximately 75 percent of the College’s electrical use — resulting in savings of more than $2 million over 15 years.

GCC’s 250-acre campus is located at 1400 Tanyard Road in Deptford, just off Exit 56 of Route 55.
