Heritage Commission Seeks Focus on Red Bank Battlefield History
Deptford Twp. – The Gloucester County Cultural & Heritage Commission will host a focus group on how to make the history of the James and Ann Whitall House at Red Bank Battlefield come alive for local students.
On Saturday, Sept. 21 from 2 to 4 p.m., guests will discuss creative ways to engage visitors to make meaningful connections with the history of Red Bank Battlefield, located in National Park. The Gloucester County Cultural & Heritage Commission wants to know what stories the public is most interested in learning as well as how to tie this significant site to current events.
The James and Ann Whitall House is where one of the key conflicts of the Revolutionary War took place. Just outside of Fort Mercer, it served as a hospital for the Continental Army. Fort Mercer and Fort Mifflin were erected on both sides of the Delaware River to protect the waterway and city of Philadelphia.

The focus group is free and will take place at the James and Ann Whitall House at Red Bank Battlefield Park, on Hessian Avenue in National Park. Light refreshments will be served. To RSVP, please contact Diane Macris at 856-464-5214. Space is limited.
The Gloucester County Cultural & Heritage Commission is housed on Gloucester County College’s 250-acre campus, located in Deptford right off Exit 56 of Route 55. It is sponsored by the Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
