Discarded Christmas Trees Soon to Become Part of the Township's Landscaping

West Deptford Public Works is set to recycle old Christmas trees into fresh mulch for parks and various other township locations.

Taking down the Christmas tree may be a heartbreaking end to the holiday season for some. Yet thanks to the township, that Christmas tree can be the gift that keeps on giving.

West Deptford Recycling Coordinator Troy DePrince explains that the township recycles all disposed trees. After collection, the trees will be brought back to the Public Works Department and broken down in an industrial wood chipper. After extracting all unusable parts of the grounded trees, the wood chips are then used as mulch for various parks in the township.

All Christmas trees will be picked up on regularly scheduled trash days. There is no deadline for tree pickup; DePrince explains that the township will continue to pick up the trees left at the curb until there are no more.

In addition, residents can also drop of their trees at the Public Works Department’s brush collection bin.

For all trees dropped off at the Public Works Department or left at the curb on trash day, DePrince asks that all lights and ornaments are removed. In addition, flocked trees and artificial trees will not be accepted.
