Spice Up Your Life with West Deptford Junior Women's Club Cookbook

For $15, the recipe collection is a feel-good fundraiser that offers some insight into the kitchens of your neighborhood.

How much can you learn about your neighbors from what they cook?

Quite a bit, actually, argues Aimée Maska Boucher of the West Deptford Junior Women's Club.

The organization has published a compilation of some of the best recipes from "our own residents and VIPs" in the township, Boucher said.

The result is a cookbook that reveals as much about the cooks themselves as it does the amount of talent that exists in the kitchens of West Deptford.

"What we found when we started was that just about everyone in West Deptford is a VIP of some kind," Boucher told Patch in an email.

"Knowing what your first-grade teacher makes for Thanksgiving or what your soccer coach serves on game night puts a fun spin on the traditional cookbook."

Coaches, teachers business owners—even Miss West Deptford herself—all contributed recipes to the book, which Boucher says makes an affordable Mother's Day gift at $15.

But if the proof is in the pudding, then the hungry and curious can taste free samples of some recipes published in the book at a tasting to be held at the West Deptford Free Public Library on Wednesday, May 8, at 7 p.m.

All sales benefit the West Deptford Junior Women's Club, members of which Boucher said will be on hand that night to discuss its activities.

In the past, she said, the group has made charitable outreach that includes supporting needy families at Christmas, sponsoring scholarships for graduating seniors, and donating money to help children with medical bills.
