10,000 Maniacs to Headline Woodbury Fall Arts Festival
Natalie Merchant won't be joining the band, but they'll play all the hits from their late-1980s heyday, plus new music.
It's been a quarter-century since 10,000 Maniacs released its breakthrough album, In My Tribe. But, the band soldiers on, minus two key members, performing the earnest, catchy folk-rock songs that became radio staples in the late 1980s.
On Sept. 28, 10,000 Maniacs will headline the free Starlight Concert at the Woodbury Fall Arts Festival. The festival, in its second year, is a two day bonanza of art, music and culture featuring multiple performance stages in the city's downtown.
10,000 Maniacs will take the Broad Street Stage at 8:15 p.m. The rockabilly trio Full Blown Cherry, and Philadelphia-based mellow rockers Up the Chain open the Starlight Concert.
Although 10,000 Maniacs are sure to play hits such as "Like the Weather" and "These Are the Days," the band won't lean strictly on its past.
The quintet is touring this fall to support its first new release in 14 years, Music from the Motion Picture.
Natalie Merchant, the band's singer during its commercial heyday, left 10,000 Maniacs in 1993 to pursue a solo career. She was replaced by vocalist/violinist Mary Ramsey, who's celebrating her 20th year with the band.
Guitarist Robert Buck, who co-wrote many of the band's hits, died of liver failure in 2000.
