Election 2012 @ The National Constitution Center

From press release by Lauren A. Saul.

At the National Constitution Center, the presidential election comes to life for visitors of all ages! Prior to touring the Center’s exhibits, guests are encouraged to stop by Election HQ on the Grand Hall Overlook. Designed with the festive look and feel of a political rally, Election HQ will excite and engage visitors with activities and programs about the ins and outs of the election process. Guests can watch presidential campaign ads, cast a vote for their favorite presidential candidate in the Center’s gumball poll, track primary results, create campaign buttons, register to vote, and more!

Once inside the Center’s main exhibition, The Story of We the People, guests will be in the heart of Election Central.  A highlight of this experience is the Center’s brand new voting booth exhibit – created in partnership with fast-growing Internet startup ElectNext – which revolutionizes how visitors approach the voting process. Like eHarmony for voters, the interactive technology matches visitors to the presidential candidate who best aligns with their views on key issues – and the results may be surprising! Once matched with a candidate, visitors will have the opportunity to cast a vote and watch as live results are displayed on a large screen in the exhibition.

From George Washington’s diary to Bill Clinton’s saxophone, new artifacts at the National Constitution Center provide a unique glimpse into the lives of our nation’s presidents. As excitement continues to grow during this pivotal election season, visitors also will learn about the evolution of the voting process through a display of historic voting machines, including a wooden ballot box from the 1800s and a Palm Beach County voting booth from the controversial 2000 election. The collection of 30 artifacts will be on display in the Center’s main exhibition beginning June 29, 2012.

Visitors also can join in the “Can You Vote?” program to learn about the history of voting in America and how different groups fought to be included in this important civic responsibility. Participants in the popular “Hail to the Chief” trivia program will be quizzed about the most memorable elections in American history, including Thomas Jefferson vs. John Adams, George W. Bush vs. Al Gore, and more.
