Get Out: Get Some Culture Edition

Hit the town this weekend and get a little culture. Check out a book fair, a historic NJ band, a pig roast, a classic play American play or pay homage to Vietnam veterans aboard the Battleship New Jersey.

Are you itching to get out and about this weekend? Enjoy what this tristate area has to offer at a war re-enactment, classy book fair, rock concert, rendition of Godspell, or help open up the deck at City Tap House and have a few brews. Just get out and you'll know what to do!

Pig Roast on the Patio

  • Where/When: City Tap House–3925 Walnut St., Philadelphia, PA. The event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 2.
  • What’s Going On: Join the folks at City Tap House as they open their patio for the first time this year. Stoudt’s Brewing Company and Drink Philly will be on hand along with live music from Jefe and a Grand BBQ Buffet.
  • Pricing: $47 a ticket

Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes

  • Where/When: –315 White Horse Pike, Collingswood, NJ. 8 to 10:30 p.m. on Friday, April 1.
  • What’s Going On: NJ Natives Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes bring their rockin’ sounds from the Jersey Shore to Collingswood. This salt-of-the-earth band has been churning out good tunes since the early days of Springsteen, and now it’s your turn to see them!
  • Pricing: $29.50-$49.50

War Living History Day

  • Where/When: Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial–62 Battleship Pl., Camden, NJ. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 2.
  • What’s Going On: Be part of the inaugural Vietnam War Living History Day at the Battleship NJ. Learn about the war from re-enactors stationed throughout the ship and be viewing military vehicles from that era on the pier. There will be a barbecue with hot dogs and chicken, bar service and music from the classic rock band The Toonz.
  • Pricing: Free with admission to the battleship: $18.50 for adults, $14 for seniors, veterans and kids ages 6-11. Free for active military, BB62 Vets and WWII Vets.

Godspell

  • Where/When: Mainstage Center for the Arts, Camden County College–200 College Dr., Blackwood, NJ. 8 p.m. on Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2.
  • What’s Going On: Experience the splendor of this era-defining, Tony Award-nominated musical at the Dennis Flyer Memorial Theatre at CCC’s campus. The cast will act out a contemporary portrayal of scenes from the Gospel of Matthew with classic songs like “Day by Day”, “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord”, and “Learn Your Lessons Well.”
  • Pricing: $16-$21, students/seniors: $13

PPAC 2nd Annual Book Fair

  • Where/When: Philadelphia Photo Arts Center–1400 N. American St., Philadelphia, PA- Suite 103. Noon-6 p.m. on Saturday, April 2.
  • What’s Going On: Artists, presses and publishers will be in attendance and selling their books, prints and other merchandise for the second year of this wonderful Philadelphia event. Artists and organizations of note including Bodega, Blind Spot, Bryan Graf, Charles Lane Press, Chad Muthard, Conveyor Arts and David Graham will be involved in the book fair.
