Get Out: Hit Men and Dragon Boats

Have a few pints, see a classic line up, classic house or classic play all this weekend.

There are plenty of things to do this weekend whether you want to avoid the heat or get outside in the sun. Here are five events sure to shake up any weekend.

The Hit Men (3 of the Original 4 Seasons)

  • Where/When: Broadway Theatre of Pitman–43 S. Broadway St., Pitman, NJ. 8 p.m. on June 4.
  • What’s Going On: For one night only check out the Hit Men, a band formed out of former members of both Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons and Tommy James and the Shondells. The Hit Men will roll out hits that they helped bring together from the '60s, '70s and '80s to help form “the soundtrack of your life.”
  • Pricing: $35 and $45

  • Where/When: Ritz Theatre Company–915 White Horse Pike, Oaklyn, NJ. 8 p.m. on Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4. 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 5.
  • What’s Going On: The story behind the screenplay of Gone with the Wind comes to life on stage! Famed producer David O. Selznick has shut down the production of Gone with the Wind, since the script simply isn’t working out as planned. Selznick enlists the help of screenwriter Ben Hecht and pulls director Victor Fleming off the set of Wizard of Oz for five straight days of re-writing, play acting and a diet of peanuts and bananas. 
  • Pricing: Evening: $20, matinee: $15.

Independence Dragon Boat Regatta

  • Where/When: Schuylkill River–Kelly Drive, Philadelphia, PA. 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, June 4
  • What’s Going On: Teams ranging from fledglings to seasoned pros will be racing down the Schuylkill in Philadelphia’s second biggest rowing regatta. This race will put teams of 20 head to head in 500-meter races. This is a family friendly event and will be raising money for various charities.
  • Pricing: Free

  • Where/When: 126 Elfreth’s Alley, Philadelphia, PA. 5 p.m.-9 p.m. on Friday, June 3 and noon-5 p.m. on Saturday, June 4.
  • What’s Going On: The residents of Elfreth’s Alley’s historic homes will be graciously allowing the public to enter this weekend. On Friday night visitors can meet Ben Franklin, have refreshments, view artwork, taste wine and cheese, hear live music and visit the House Museum. Saturday will be a family friendly event including demonstrations of Colonial era crafts, calligraphy, live fife and drum corps, and  refreshments.
  • Pricing: Advanced tickets are $10 for students, $20 for adults, and $60for families. Tickets the day of the event are $15 for students, $25 for adults, and $80 for families. Children under age 6 get in free.

Haddon Pub Fest

  • Where/When: Along Haddon and West Crystal Lake avenues in Haddon Township, NJ. Noon-6 p.m. on Saturday, June 4.
  • What’s Going On: Haddon Township takes part in the spirit of Philly Beer Week with craft beer specials at seven locations. Cork, Treno, Taproom & Grill, P.J. Whelihan’s, Pour House, Brewer’s Towne Tavern, The Irish Mile and Tom Fischer’s Tavern will be featuring different craft beers, conversations, and tastings. A free trolley service will run between the pubs and even drop visitors off at the Westmont PATCO station. Buy a $10 T-shirt now and wear it to the event to get special deals and door prizes.
  • Pricing: Admission is free
