Get Out: Labor Day Weekend

Don't kiss the summer goodbye just yet! Here are five more events in the area.

Before the fireworks and backyard celebrations send summer off with a bang Get Out there and live it up! Below are five reasonably priced and free events to supplement your festive, hurricane-free weekend. Enjoy!

Labor Day Car Show

  • Where/When: Silver Diner–2131 Rt. 38 Cherry Hill, NJ. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 5.
  • What's Going On: Celebrate a truly American holiday with a truly American pasttime: classic cars. The Silver Diner and South Jersey Pontiac Club are sponsoring this “Unofficial End of the Summer” event for the auto enthusiasts out there or just the casual purveyor.
  • Pricing: Free

WHYY Connections Festival

  • Where/When: Great Plaza at Penn's Landing–Chestnut St. and Columbus Blvd., Philadelphia, PA. 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3.
  • What's Going On: See all that WHYY has to offer at this day-long festival showcasing all of their programming. There will be live music, kids activities and other live performances.
  • Pricing: Free

John Chads House Tours and Bread Baking

  • Where/When: Chadds Ford Historical Society–1736 Creek Rd. Chadds Ford, PA. 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3 and Sunday, Sept. 4.
  • What's Going On: Local businessman and Quaker John Chad and his family lead an interesting life during the colonial period. Learn about their lives by visiting the restored one room school house, touring the Chads' house and seeing live beehive breadmaking. This is the last weekend this season for the tour.
  • Pricing: some activities are free. Touring the Chads' House–$5

X-RAY IMIJ

  • What's Going On: Try some great locally made wine and food while listening to the sounds of a full-on Jimi Hendrix experience. X-RAY IMIJ is a far-out Hendrix tribute band dedicated to the "greatest guitar player that ever lived."
  • Pricing: Admission is $5

Fran Smith Jr./Graham Alexander

  • Where/When: The Auction House–100 West Merchant St., Audubon, NJ. 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 3.
  • What's Going On: Check out the Fran Smith Jr. Band with special guest Graham Alexander! The Auction House is a great historic venue for a live show with a strict no alcohol policy.
  • Pricing: $15 a ticket
