Get Out: Memorial Day Weekend Edition

Watch Blue Angels fly, a local parade, rock or blues show, or catch a quirky play all this weekend.

Whether you plan on grilling outside or honoring an American hero (or both) , here are some events perfectly set to pepper your weekend plans with flavor. Enjoy!

Vigil

  • Where/When: St. Stephen’s Theater–923 Ludlow St., Philadelphia, PA. 8 p.m. on Friday, May 27. 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 28 and 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 29.
  • What’s Going On: Grouchy middle aged Kemp receives a letter from his aging aunt that states she is “old and dying”–or could it be “yodeling”. Her handwriting isn’t very good so it’s hard to tell. In this witty and at time outrageous comedic play by Morris Panych our main character quits his job and travels cross country, ready for her death.
  • Pricing: Tickets range from $23- $36

Wheels and Wings Airshow

  • Where/When: 1 Leddon St. at Millville Municipal Airport Millville, NJ. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, and Sunday, May 29.
  • What’s Going On: Local veteran-supporting motorcycle enthusiasts will be riding down this Saturday and Sunday to honor our veterans at America’s first defense airport in Millville. The all-day event will feature the one and only Blue Angels airshow, the United States Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, vintage warbird planes and modern day jets performing acrobatic acts. What a great day to kick off Memorial Day weekend!
  • Pricing: Adults are $15, children12 & under are $10, children 3 and under are free, and parking is $5

Gina Sicilia Band

  • Where/When: PSALM–Philadelphia Society for Art, Literature and Music-5841 Overbrook Ave., Philadelphia, PA.  8 p.m. on Saturday, May 28
  • What’s Going On: Check out this rising star in the local blues circuit as she brings her distinctive voice to PSALM. Sicilia has received rave reviews from critics and fans alike and is here to make her mark on the music world.
  • Pricing: $16

By Surprise Record Release Show

  • Where/When: The Auction House–100 West Merchant St., Audubon, NJ. 8 p.m. on Friday, May 27.
  • What’s Going On: Listen to five up and coming bands and celebrate the Top Shelf Records release of the local indie/punk band By Surprise. Other acts include Aspiga, Ages, Dude Japan and Brian Mietz of It’s a King Thing.
  • Pricing: $10

West Deptford-National Park Memorial Day Parade

  • Where/When: Hessian Avenue from Colonial Manor to Red Bank Battlefield.
  • What’s Going On: The annual parade starts at 10 a.m. and runs from the intersection of Hessian and Academy, by the Colonial Manor Fire Company, down to Red Bank Battlefield.
  • Pricing: free
