Get Out: Music, Comedy and Renaissance Fare

Patch highlights five local events that involve comedy, beer, music, art and 17th century cuisine. How can you go wrong?

Looking for something to do this weekend that is slightly out of your regular routine? Well, look no further! Patch has found five local events sure to get you out of your cubicle and out into the world!

Dov Davidoff

  • Where/When: Helium Comedy Club- 2031 Sansom St., Philadelphia, PA. Shows are Friday, Feb. 25 and Saturday, Feb. 26 at 8:30 and 10 p.m.
  •  What’s Going On: NJ native stand-up comedian Dov Davidoff brings his aggressively funny brand of comedy back to Philadelphia. Davidoff has appeared in movies such as Invincible and the television shows Jimmy Kimmel Live, Chappelle’s Show, Chelsea Lately and Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn.
  •  Pricing: $10

West Philadelphia Orchestra at Triumph Brewing Company

  • Where/When: Triumph Brewing Company- 117 Chestnut St., Philadelphia, PA. Saturday, Feb. 26 starting at 10 p.m.
  • What’s Going On: The West Philadelphia musicians, who describe themselves as a “broad musical community” will be performing their brand of Eastern European folk music with a tinge of jazz, punk, rock and soul. The band consists of up to 14 musicians including trumpets, violins, saxophones, sousaphones, vocalists and more. WPO has played The Kimmel Center as well as smaller venues, such as Triumph and The Khyber.  And if you arrive early, you can try any of the beers brewed on premises at Triumph!

 7 @ 7 Productions Presents

  • Where/When: The Auction House-100 W. Merchant St., Audubon, NJ. Show begins at 7:30 p.m.
  • What’s Going On: The Auction House in Audubon will host 3 local bands: The “easily accessible” indie rock trio A Little Affair, The eight-man pop/punk/ska Sicklerville based band No Such Noise, and the audience- focused singer/songwriter Matt Roach. The Auction House is a historical 1920’s bank building that advertises “all ages shows." 
  • Pricing: $10

 21st Annual Madrigal Dinner

  • Where/When: Drexel University, Main Building- 3141 Chestnut St., Philadelphia, Pa. Friday, Feb. 25 and Saturday, Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m.
  • What’s Going On: This dinner and concert event features live music, storytellers, jesters and more all from students fully costumed in Renaissance clothes. Enjoy a feast of 17th-century meals followed by a performance by the Chamber Singers who will delight you with madrigals, ballettas, and lute music.
  •  Pricing: Dinner and a concert: $21.95, concert only: $3

 Rowan University Presents “Acting Out”

  • Where/When: Rowan University Art Gallery- 201 Mullica Hill Rd., Glassboro, NJ. Friday, Feb. 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 26 from noon to 5 p.m.
  • What’s Going On:  This exhibition features six contemporary artists who use parts of their own bodies as a key element of their art. Combinations of video, photography, paintings and performance are used to evoke responses to issues of masculinity, gender, race, desire, adolescence and many more in a format that has been described as intense and therapeutic.
