Get Out: Wine and the Arts

Enjoy some of the best this area has to offer this weekend including a jazzy wine event, ancient Japanese rituals, "Love Letters" in production, and the sounds of Blues Box.

Patch brings you five events this week that showcase local art with jazz musicians, blues musicians, a poignant art exhibit, local theater and a demonstration of ancient Japanese arts. Enjoy.

Corked and Uncorked

  • Where/When: Heritage Vineyard of Richwood–480 Mullica Hill Rd., Mullica Hill, NJ 08062. 7-10 p.m. on Saturday, April 9.
  • What’s Going On: Learn about pairing cheese and wine while enjoying the groovy sounds of Standard Deviation. This award winning winery will also “tag” you as corked (married) or uncorked (single) at this event. The folks at Heritage Station will be bringing in world famous imported cheeses and delectable deserts.
  • Pricing: $20 a ticket. Must purchase ahead of time.

Love Letters

  • Where/When: Sketch Club Players, Inc.–433 Glover St., Woodbury, NJ. 8 p.m. on Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9.
  • What’s Going On: Join local players as they deliver a tale of love lost in the play Love Letters. Follow the characters Andrew and Melissa from childhood into their twilight years through a series of love letters written to one another and read passionately on stage.
  • Pricing: $17, $15 for seniors

Blues Box

  • Where/When: Red Hot & Blue BBQ Restaurant–2175 Marlton Pike, Cherry Hill, NJ. 8 p.m. on Friday, April 8.
  • What’s Going On: Enjoy some of the area’s best southern barbecue while listening to the blistering blues sounds of Blues Box. This six-piece band features seasoned musicians including vocalist Joseph Felicetta, and has been setting the area on fire since they formed over two years ago.
  • Pricing: Free show, pay for the cost of food and drink.

  • Where/When: Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts–118 and 128 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9. 11 a.m.- 5p.m. on Sunday, April 10. 
  • What’s Going On: Thirty pieces of fine art drawn mostly from PAFA’s in house collection will be on display with the common theme of using human representations to “as a means to address issues about the nature of the self and subjective identity”. The pieces are post 1950-era and the exhibit will feature the work of Paul Lamantia, Rico Lebrun, Robert Lostutter, Philip Pearlstein, Paul Pletka, and Honore Sharrer and more.
  • Pricing: Adults $15, senior (60+) and students with I.D. $12, youth ages (13-18) $12, child (12 and under, excluding groups) FREE

Morris Arboretum Japanese Cherry Blossom Celebration

  • Where/When: Morris Arboretum of University of Pennsylvania–100 E. Northwestern Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19118. 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 9.
  • What’s Going On: Witness the art, culture and gardens inspired by the 35 varieties of cherry trees at the Morris Arboretum. Other events include a performance of the wondrous ancient Japanese swordsmanship technique called “Ken Jutsu"; a Traditional Japanese Tea Demonstration and a Japanese Garden Elements Tour. This is the last weekend of this event, so don’t miss out!
  • Pricing: $16 general admission, $14 for seniors, $7 for students and members get in free.
