Grab and Go Family Planner: Reptiles, Gnomes and Wild Animals

Bring the whole family, or just that special kid that needs a day out to five different local events this weekend.

The rain may have put a damper on your plans last weekend, but it's not too late to still enjoy your summer! Check out local wildlife, a hilarious family movie out in the open, and much more all this weekend.

Reptiles in the Pines

  • What's Going On: Scout out our slithery friends of the forest with the folks at Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge. Summer is the best time of year to find reptiles in the Pine Barrens with the park's reptile ambassadors.
  • Pricing: Adults- $5.00, children - $3.00. Children ages 3 and under and members are free!

  • Where/When: James G. Atkinson Memorial Park–Delsea Dr. and Bethel Mill Rd., Sewell, NJ. 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19.
  • What's Going On: Check out this festive family friendly movie for free at the James G. Atkinson Memorial Park. Inspired by the classic tale of Romeo and Juliet, the gnomes of the neighboring gardens of Montague and Capulet are feuding, but two of their young ones, Gnomeo and Juliet, are in love. Bring out your lawn chairs to this outdoor event. This film is rated G.

Creatures of Culture: Africa

  • Where/When: The Philadelphia Zoo–3400 W. Girard Ave., Philadelphia, PA. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20 and Sunday, Aug. 21.
  • What's Going On: Celebrate other cultures by exploring their music, cuisine and take part in hands-on workshops at this event that is part of the Philadelphia Zoo’s Creatures of Culture International Series. There will be live musical performances, food, and of course, animals from around the world.
  • Pricing: Included with admission of: adults- $18, children, $15.

Colonial Kids Quest

  • What's Going On: This engaging puppet show makes you a young detective, there to assist with the ever important task of finding the missing Declaration of Independence! This show is loved by kids and adults alike.

Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon Card Night

  • Where/When: Voorhees Public Library–203 Laurel Rd. Voorhees, NJ. 6:25 p.m. to 7:25 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19.
  • What's Going On: Youth fans of the popular card game based on the Saturday morning cartoons will gather here to play, enjoy snacks and "catch 'em all". Participants are asked to not bring extremely valuable cards.
