Grab and Go Kids Planner: Dr. Seuss, da Vinci and Kids That Rock

Tired of the same old weekend grind? Then take your family out to one of these family-friendly events!

Experience some once-a-year fun with the family or get in on an exhibit that is just beginning this weekend. Either way, it is sure to be fun. Two of this weeks events are totally free!

Pajama Party Dinner with Seuss

  • Where/When: The Pop Shop–729 Haddon Avenue Collingswood, 5 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 4.
  • What’s Going On: Come to this family friendly 50’s style restaurant in the heart of Collingswood where a fun guest will be reading the Dr. Seuss book Fox in Socks at 5 p.m. After that the Cat in the Hat will be stopping by until 7:30. Kids are welcome to wear matching “footie” pajamas, and adults who wear pajamas will receive one dollar off of their meal. See their website for pajama attire details.
  • Pricing: Free with the cost of dinner

Saturday Playdate Featuring a School of Rock Kids Rock Concert

  • Where/When: Comcast Center–1701 John F Kennedy Blvd. Philadelphia, PA, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 5.
  • What’s Going On: Child musicians from the program The School of Rock will be performing a free concert along with activities from Sprout TV. Merchants will be providing rock and roll themed lunch specials. The Market’s new Demonstration Kitchen will also be open where the chef will be creating dishes that are kid’s favorites! Parents are encouraged to watch the “Comcast Experience” video before entering the event.
  • Pricing: Concert, free. Food, at cost

Read Across America Celebration

  • Where/When: Logan Township Branch Library–498 Beckett Rd., Logan Township, from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 5.
  • What’s Going On: Make a fun Cat in the Hat-themed craft before the Read Across America Celebration begins. The “Cat in the Hat” will be visiting to read books to all. Snacks and songs will also be part of the celebration.
  • Pricing: Free

2011 International Philadelphia Flower Show

  • Where/When: Pennsylvania Convention Center–12th and Arch streets Philadelphia, PA, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning Sunday, March 6
  • What’s Going On: Exhibitors will be “fooling” shrubs, bushes, flowers and trees into blooming for the annual show. This year’s theme, Springtime in Paris, will feature exhibits showcasing the many styles of Paris, including a bucolic park scene along the Seine, a catacomb of avant-garde art, and courtyards and cafes form a Parisian paradise.
  • Pricing: Adults $25, Children $15 with advanced ticket purchase. Prices are more at the door.

Leonardo da Vinci’s Workshop

  • Where/When: The Franklin Institute–222 North 20th St., Philadelphia, PA. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and the last tickets will be sold at 7 p.m. March 4 and 5.
  • What’s Going On: Experience of all of the majesty and genius of the “greatest mind of the Renaissance.” The exhibition comes straight from a group of engineers and da Vinci scholars from Milan who bring to life many of da Vinci’s sketches with life-sized 3D models. Interact with state-of-the-art touchscreens that recreate the genius’ notebooks, or take a gander at his definitive flying machine “The Great Kite” or a working model of his “Aerial Screw,” a predecessor to the modern helicopter. The event will end May 22, 2011.
  • Pricing: Daytime: 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.(Last exhibit entry at 3:30 p.m.)
    Adult: $24.50, Seniors (62+): $23.50, Children (4-11): $17.50
    Evening: 5-8:30 p.m.(evening hours Friday & Saturday only; last entry at 7 p.m.) Adult: $10, Seniors (62+): $10, Children (4-11): $6
