Library Offering Adult Summer Reading Programs

A reading contest and two programs highlight July and August.

Summer reading isn’t just for kids.

The will kick off its annual adult reading program, Novel Destinations, today, for everyone over 18.

The contest guidelines:

  • Read at least three books or listen to three audiobooks or Playaways between now and Aug. 25
  • Write the books’ titles, authors and a sentence or two describing the book on an entry form, which are available at the library’s information desk or on the library website. If you have a favorite book, check it off.
  • Turn in your entry form at the library information desk, and you’ll be entered into a drawing for a chance to win the Novel Destinations Booklover’s Backpack, stuffed with various reading goodies.
  • You can submit additional entry forms each time you read three more books, with each form scoring you another entry to win the backpack.

In addition to the contest, the library will offer a pair of programs during July for adult readers.

On Wednesday, July 13, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., you can come cool off with Puzzle Day at Your Library. The meeting room will be set up with tables to accommodate various types of puzzles, such as jigsaw, crossword, game boards and more.

You can use what’s on hand or you are invited to bring your own. Snacks will be provided throughout the day, and pizza will be served at 4 p.m. to conclude the mind-bending afternoon of solving all those puzzles.  

And to coincide with the library’s travel theme, on Thursday, July 14 at 7 p.m., Ellen Rhudy will present, “Novel Destinations visited through the Peace Corps.”

Rhudy will share her photographs of novel destination from her Peace Corps adventures, bringing the audience into her global learning experience. She is also pursuing a Fulbright Scholarship, and will share details on the process during her talk.
