Second Chance at Stardom

Shannon Livewell is getting another shot at American Idol, as the show heads to Hollywood to make the cut to the top singers.

Most people don’t get a single shot at getting to Hollywood on American Idol.

Later tonight, West Deptford’s own Shannon Livewell, a senior at GCIT who's performing in the school's production of The Importance of Being Earnest as Idol is on, will make it two seasons in a row.

In an interview posted on the Idol website, Livewell said having to sit on the sidelines and watch her friends on the show go through the trials and tribulations of the show’s season motivated her.

“I got that fire in the belly, and now I’m back and I’m ready to win,” she said in the interview.

Her love for old-school rhythm and blues, something most 17-year-olds wouldn’t put at the top of their list, is something that sets her apart, she said.

She's already built a fanbase online, with 311 fans on her official Facebook page, 300 followers on Twitter and another 519 fans on an unofficial Facebook fan page. She also has a slew of music videos on her YouTube page.

Last year, she auditioned in Orlando to score a spot in the semis. Her audition this year was at the Meadowlands, considerably closer to home. Fifty-one people advanced to Hollywood from the New Jersey auditions, and tonight’s show begins the process of cutting to the cream of the crop.

The show airs tonight at 8 p.m. on Fox 29.
