Annual Wheelabrator Meeting at Library on Wednesday

Representatives from the Wheelabrator waste-to-energy power plant will deliver an annual briefing to the public.

Representatives from the Wheelabrator waste-to-energy plant will give a presentation at the West Deptford Free Public Library on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

The meeting is the plant's annual update to residents on the happenings at the Wheelabrator. The focus will be on the environmental and operational activities at the location. The public is encouraged to ask questions during the public comment portion of the session.

The power plant produces about 14,000 kilowatts of electricity each day. This comes from approximately 525 tons of trash that is processed through the plant daily. The waste-to-energy plant is said to be cleaner than fossil fuel power plants.

Last year, the plant reported that emissions were significantly safer thanks to a drastic reduction in nitrogen oxide. This was partially due to new state-mandated targets.
