MedExpress Joins Southwood Shopping Center

Moving into the former Hollywood Video, the new clinic will serve as a walk-in urgent care facility.

With a little renovation, the Southwood Shopping Center in West Deptford will soon have a new addition. The long-vacant building that once housed Hollywood Video is soon to become a new urgent care medical facility.

MedExpress—which has one existing location in Cinnaminson—will soon have three New Jersey locations in total, with plans to open a new facility in Willingboro as well.

The new MedExpress Urgent Care location will bring provide a full-service, walk-in clinic open every day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a physician on site at all times.  While the clinic accepts health insurance from some providers, those without health insurance are welcomed as well.

Township administrator Eric Campo confirmed that a permit had been issued by the township for interior demolition with existing tenant space. Although Campo did not have an exact date for when the company began leasing the space, he believes it was relatively recent. With no exact date for when the clinic is scheduled to open, he estimates the renovations will take about a month.

As the new MedExpress location is a medical facility, Campo said the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) had to sign off before the township could issue the permit.

"It is encouraging that new business is occupying a vacant commercial building, and highlights our efforts that 'West Deptford is open for business,'" wrote Mayor Raymond Chintall in an emailed statement.

Chintall went on to write that he hopes this business will bring both employment opportunities and meaningful, lasting service to the area.

According to the MedExpress website, patients who have insurance can expect a lower copay than if they had gone to the ER. In addition, those without health insurance can also expect more affordable rates than that of the ER or other clinics. The website also claims that visits to the clinic typically last no more than an hour.
