Red Robin Opens Its Doors at Deptford Mall

Pairing philanthropy with its burgers, Red Robin officially opens for business.

Red Robin is ... here!

After its long-awaited arrival, Red Robin celebrated its grand opening in the Deptford Mall on Monday. With doors open at 11 a.m., customers steadily poured into Red Robin to get their early afternoon grub on.

After pep talk from Liz Scott, co-executive director of Alex’s Lemonade Stand and mother of the organization’s namesake Alexandra Scott, the Red Robin team dispersed to their designated stations to prepare for their first day of service.

Scott stayed around and helped with operations at Red Robin, whose sales of Freckled Lemonade benefitted Alex’s Lemonade Stand. The restaurant chain recently embarked on a fundraising effort with Alex’s Lemonade Stand, and the Deptford opening was the second Red Robin grand opening Scott attended.

“The nice thing about Alex’s is it’s easy to get involved,” said Scott. “We’ve been very fortunate.”

The lemonade will be on sale for the remainder of the year, with all proceeds of the sales continuing to go directly to the foundation from Feb. 4 to Feb. 10.

With four days of complimentary meals offered prior to the opening, Amos Durbin, Red Robin regional operations director for New Jersey and New York, said the staff had to turn people on Friday and Saturday away when they thought the restaurant was open for business. Yet, with menu choices such as the Prime Chophouse—a burger consisting of horseradish sautéed mushrooms, steak sauce, onion straws and sharp provolone cheese—who can blame them?

“It was great,” said Durbin of the trial runs. “It was a phenomenal week.”

Nineteen company trainers helped acclimate the 135 employees of the new Red Robin, and Durbin said the “real-life” training went very well. The team received a great deal of positive feedback from customers who dined during the trial run.

“We’re excited,” said Durbin. “I think Deptford is going to receive us very nicely.”

With 18 different gourmet burgers on the menu, Red Robin also serves up an array of chicken sandwiches, salads, appetizers, wraps and soups. In addition, they join Deptford Mall’s Ruby Tuesday as the only other restaurant with a liquor license—complete with a bar area and four flatscreen TVs.

With the two other closest Red Robins in Mays Landing and Hamilton, this new location is only the seventh in New Jersey. Durbin said the chain plans to continue to build here in South Jersey.

The new Red Robin is currently located at the Boscov’s end of the Deptford Mall, next to the Gloucester County store, and serves both lunch and dinner. It's open 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 11 a.m.-midnight on Friday and Saturday.
