9/11 Memorial Ceremony Tuesday Morning in Mantua

Gloucester County's annual ceremony remembers the three local victims of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Nick Brandemarti Jr., John Rodak and Perry Thompson have been gone for 11 years, but they’re far from forgotten.

Gloucester County will once again memorialize the three local victims of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center with a Tuesday morning ceremony at the Place of Reflection in Mantua’s Chestnut Branch Park.

“We will always remember the lives of our local victims and all of the 2,996 that were killed in the attacks on Sept. 11th,” said Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger. “This ceremony is a tribute to them, their families and all of the first responders who are our everyday heroes.”

Brandemarti, a West Deptford native who had just started his career as an investment banker with Keefe, Bruyette and Woods, when he was killed in the attack on the south tower.

A bruising fullback who once rushed for 337 yards in a single game for West Deptford High School, Brandemarti went on to play at Fordham before embarking on his career.

Since his death, , and an annual golf tournament goes toward an annual scholarship fund in his memory.

This year’s 9/11 public ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m. at the park, which is on Main Street in Mantua.
