'Big Al' is the Gloucester County Pet of the Week

This pit bull mix is up for adoption from the county animal shelter.

Meet “Big Al!” He is an 11-month-old male pit bull terrier mix.

“Big Al” is a handsome boy with a very sweet, playful personality. He is housebroken and will sit and give paw for a treat.

We can’t imagine why such a great dog like “Big Al” is with us, he was clearly somebody’s pet. “Big Al” will make a really great addition to any family.

If you would like to make this great guy a part of your family, please contact the Gloucester County Animal Shelter at 856-881-2828. His ticket number is 214593.

Sorry, but gloucester county animal shelter makes it harder to get a pet than to adopt a child. My husband and I, who are responsible, loving pet owners and parents were turned down because we were a week behind on a vet visit..... So what now???? The animal gets put down??? This is NOT a no kill shelter..

We were turned down because the dog I owned at the time was not on heartworm preventative. They wanted me to go back and get her tested, then put on HP, then I could call them back and.proceed. This was even after my vet told them I was a model pet owner. I told them to forget it because the rottweiler I saw at the shelter would have been gone by the time I went jumping thru hoops to get approved. They are ridiculous, you would think that a vet's glowing reference would be enough so that they could adopt out a pet so they would have room to take in another.

The same thing happened to me about the heartworm meds...I have had MANY happy dogs and cats that are treated like my children...and have a many loving years with us....it's just too bad they are forcing people to BUY animals....shame on you shelter...you are half of the problem..
