Gloucester County Animal Shelter Holding Open House on Saturday

This free event is open to the public and will feature lots of fun activities as well as information for residents looking to adopt a pet.

For any West Deptford residents looking to have a ball this weekend with some animal friends, the Gloucester County Animal Shelter will have an open house this upcoming Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is free and will be held rain or shine.

The event will feature a Pet Costume Parade at 3 p.m. as well as live music, balloons and a face painter. The shelter will also have a ton of pets on hand, including Elwood, who the shelter advertises as “The World's Ugliest Dog,” and Hercules, a dog who was rescued and adopted after having nearly been starved to death.

The shelter hopes to encourage residents from all over the region to adopt a pet at their shelter. According to Gloucester County freeholder and shelter liaison Adam J. Taliaferro, the shelter has found new homes for over 500 cats and dogs this year alone. There will be information available to residents who are interested in adopting or volunteering at the shelter.
