Hurricane Irene Causes Cancellations, Closures

From baseball games to RiverWinds, there are regionwide effects ahead of the storm.

Though Hurricane Irene is still more than a day away, there have been plenty of cancellations and closings announced ahead of this weekend.

Here's a partial list of what's closed, canceled or postponed so far:

  • will close Sunday.
  • All Gloucester County parks will close at 3 p.m. Saturday and remain closed through Monday morning.
  • Shop-Rite in West Deptford will close at 6 p.m. Saturday and reopen at 10 a.m. Monday morning.
  • Deptford Mall will close at 5 p.m. Saturday.
  • All NJ Transit bus, train and light rail service is shut down through Monday morning.
  • The Benjamin Franklin Bridge pedestrian walkway will be closed Saturday and Sunday.
  • The RiverLink Ferry will shut down over the weekend.
  • All flights at Atlantic City Airport are canceled.
  • Many flights at Philadelphia International Airport are canceled; check with your airline or the airport's website.
  • The Cape May-Lewes Ferry has canceled all service through Sunday, and may have service affected on Monday.
  • The Battleship New Jersey is closed Saturday and Sunday.
  • Clementon Park is closed Saturday and Sunday.
  • Atlantic City casinos will be closed as of noon Saturday. The Borgata is closing at 6 p.m. Friday.
  • Access to the Benjamin Franklin, Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry and Betsy Ross bridges may be shut down by the storm. A motorcycle and tractor trailer ban will go into effect on the bridges when wind speeds hit 35 mph.
  • The Delaware Memorial Bridge will have speed and lane restrictions, and will ban motorcycles and tractor trailers when wind speeds hit 40 mph. The twin span may shut down, depending on the severity of conditions.
  • PATCO's High-Speed line will run its last train from Lindenwold to Philadelphia at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, and its last train from 16th and Locust to New Jersey at 12:05 a.m. Sunday, then shut down for the remainder of Sunday.
  • Several airlines have already announced they'll waive transfer fees for people whose flights are cancelled by the hurricane.
  • The Phillies games this weekend have been wiped out. The game originally scheduled for Saturday night has been moved to Sept. 15, no word on rescheduling the other.
  • The Philadelphia Union-New England Revolution game set for 7 p.m. Sunday has been postponed until Sept. 7.
