Kenny Dechen Poker Run, Concert Series Kickoff: 5 Things for This Week

The week will also bring a meeting of the West Deptford school board, scuba lessons and a WDHS all-class reunion in Strathmere.

1. West Deptford Board of Education Meeting

Tuesday, May 28 at 7 p.m.—West Deptford Middle School Library

2. Open Water Scuba Certification

Tuesday, May 28 at 7 p.m.—RiverWinds Community Center

For those of you looking to get a little deeper into the ocean this summer, RiverWinds is offering PADI Open Water certification courses for $301.

"Participants will enter the water on their first class. Coordinated at the conclusion of class is the two-day open dive for certification completion. Registration is open to the public and participants need no prior SCUBA or snorkeling experience. Swimming requirements: 10 minute tread/float in deep water, and 200m swim with no time limit. There is a twelve year age minimum, though private lessons available for those ten to eleven."

3. West Deptford All-Class Reunion

Friday, May 31 at 7 p.m.—the Deauville Inn Strathmere; $20

All classes are welcome to join in a weekend of fun and catch-up. Friday's event kicks off with a buffet dinner and cash bar on the deck of the Deauville Inn in Strathmere. Music will be provided by Kenny Jerrimiah, formerly of the Soul Survivors.

Then, another cocktail reception is scheduled for Saturday, June 1 at the Springfield Inn in Sea Isle City from 3-6 p.m. That event features music by the Juliano Brothers. $35 at door includes a buffet and beer and wine; or just pay $10 for the buffet and partake of the cash bar.

The weekend concludes Sunday, June 2 with a beach party at the Deauville Inn from noon to 4 p.m. with a $10 buffet and cash bar—a tradition begun by the late Maryann Potts Marino, and continued in her memory.

4. Summer Concert Series: feat. Jellyroll

Friday, May 31 at 8 p.m.—RiverWinds Community Center

"The Summer Concert series is back! STREETFest concerts start at 8 p.m. in the RiverWinds amphitheatre with Botto’s Italian Line Restaurant hosting the beer
garden beginning at 7 p.m., serving beer, wine, wine coolers, malt beverages, sandwiches, shrimp, wings, hot dogs, chicken, and fries.

"No BYOB or coolers permitted. Call 845-4004 x136 for information. The facility will close at 8:00 p.m. during Friday night concerts."

This week kicks off with the dance party band Jellyroll.

5. 10th Annual Lt. Kenny B. Dechen Memorial Motorcycle (Poker) Run

Sunday, June 2 at 8 a.m.—RiverWinds Community Center

The Lt. Kenny B. Dechen Memorial Fund raises funds to support "a deserving West Deptford High School student, Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) and causes that improve the lives of fellow police officers and their families."

This year will feature two routes, a 48- and an 84-mile course, through Gloucester County; 48 was the late lieutenant's badge number. Playing cards will be issued at various appointed locations, and prizes will be awarded to those with the best hands.
