NJ DEP: Ozone Levels Unhealthy Tuesday

The state issued a warning for sensitive groups, advising them to limit outdoor activity.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) issued an air quality alert statewide Tuesday, warning the ozone forecast indicates sensitive groups could be affected as the level reaches an unhealthy point in the heat of the afternoon.

The combination of heat and southwest winds will make it dangerous for people with heart and lung disease, older adults, and children, the DEP warning said, and those groups should limit outdoor activity as much as possible during the day.

Thunderstorms Tuesday night and a shift in winds could alleviate conditions Wednesday, though the DEP warned ozone could still be moderate during the day.

The National Weather Service is predicting a high of 93 Tuesday and a high of 86 Wednesday, with thunderstorms possible any time between 4 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. Wednesday.
