Rowan U. Telethon to Benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand

The telethon is the first of many Alex's Lemonade Stand benefits planned by volunteers throughout South Jersey.

The Rowan Television Network, a student-run station at Rowan University in Glassboro, will host its fourth annual live telethon Wednesday night.

This year, the telethon will benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) for Childhood Cancer.

The telethon will be broadcast live on campus channel five and also streamed live at rtnch5.tv from 7 p.m. to midnight. There will also be Alex's Lemonade Stands all over the Glassboro campus during the telethon.

Organizers are aiming to raise $2,000 to support ALSF, a Pennsylvania-based organization that raises money to fund research for new treatments and cures for childhood cancer. Everyday, 46 children are diagnosed with some form of cancer, including pediatric brain tumors, leukemia and neuroblastoma.

The five-hour broadcast will feature local live music, magicians and comedians as well as interviews with people who’ve been affected by childhood cancer and who are involved in ALSF.  Donations can be made in person or by calling 856-347-0786 the night of the telethon.

Past Rowan telethons have benefited Red Cross Relief for Haiti and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of New Jersey.

In Gloucester County, other groups will host Alex's Lemonade Stands during the spring to support ALFS, including one at the Mantua Masonic Lodge #95 on June 11. To find other stands in the area, check out the Lemonade Stand Finder on the foundation’s website.
